the herpes handbook at www.westoverheights.com has info on how to talk to a partner about it as well as the patient counseling video on the same site.

also www.ashastd.org under their herpes section has info on it too.

Doing it over the phone will leave them with the opportunity to hang up or not see the emotion behind it, doing it face to face is more meaningful. make sure you explain everything you know about it, that it can be controlled. be understanding if they get offened as it's the first time they have heard of it. at least your going to tell them and that is what should matter to your partner since they have an option to continue or they know that protection will be needed. good luck ! letus know how it goes

My cousin was just recently diagnosed... literally a couple of days ago and it was from your current BF who didn't even think about telling her now she has to think about telling future partners and she is so ascared. its nice to see you care!
