Antivirals do 2 things, they help aide in healing and inhibit the virus from multiplying to reduce shedding and outbreaks.
Can he take antiviral medicine to reduce his risks of contracting it or just me?
Its possible he has it on his genitals but not likely due to his antibodies. Only a sore swab would determine this.
You should use protection till you find out what you have and if it is hsv1 he will always be at risk for contracting it there but you taking antivirals and using condoms would lower the risk tremendously.
To add to that, I had an all across the board screening done four months ago and came back negative for both types then while he came up positive for hsv 1 but that's normal. We've been together for almost three years.
Thank you for answering. I'm just baffled that if it's HSV1 and had an outbreak on my genitals I haven't had an oral outbreak as well. Is it possible that if we had sex while this was happening to me that I already passed it on to his genitals and he is just not showing symptoms? Will any tests determine if he already has it on his genitals if he doesn't have any sores present? I will be posting the type once I find out and hopefully I will get more light on the situation. I only know a little from the things I've read and it's a little scary. Can we continue having unprotected sex?
Hi, yes its very possible its from oral sex from your boyfriend since he has hsv1. It can be passed to his genitals from you but fairly low risk of this happening due to his antibodies but thats not 100%.
Weak immune system does compromise as thats why young children get it.
Maybe you have it oral already but have not had an outbreak. Have a blood test as well.
If its hsv2 he can contract it as well. He should use condoms. Do let us know the results.
