Mrs.

My granddaughter was bitten on the bridge of her nose by a mosquito that left her eye swollen shut the next morning, her mother took her to the doctor who gave her benedryl. Her eye is not swollen anymore bout the pimple is still there and turns really red and purple randomly. This happened over a week ago. Can you give me a reason for this?

If she is still having a "pimple," usually to encourage drainage warm applications (warm water on a face cloth) are applied to the area vs. cold.  Could you verify how she is doing now?

What I meant to say is that you can acquire an allergy any time.

Actually,  it is  more likely she may be allergic to mosquito bites like I am. So she should go in to the doctor for that reason too. Mine swell up to the size of an orange.  So she may need steroid drops for the eye. In which case I would actually put a cold compress on it. It could be infected but less likely. Only a doctor can give the correct medication for the eye. Has she ever been allergic to mosquito bites before? If not it may be an infection. I acquired the allergy though in my 30's whereas I didn't have it as a child or younger adult.

The area where she was bitten may have become infected.  I suggest she get evaluated by a health care provider to see if she needs antibiotics or have it drained or just monitor it.  In the meantime, apply warm compresses to the area and watch her temperature for any fever.

Let us know how she does.
