Ok so fingers crossed that the infectious doctor can offer something different, after all infections are his speciality, i would be surprised if he hasn't come accross a problematic psuedamonus infection before. He may be aware of a much more effective combinationof drugs through previous experience.
IV antibiotics in general (as in for normal infections) work very well, and work much faster than an oral anti-biotic because there is no digestive process, the medication enters straight into your blood stream meaning it can get to the location of infection much more quickly. So usually IV anti-biotics are much more effective than oral.
Although, having IV antibiotics will mean that you will have to stay in hospital while you are having them. Have they explained that the IV route may be an option for you?

Dee,
I am allergic to penicillins and sulpha. I have tried cipro, levaquin (both oral and inhaled), doxyclin, along with numerous other drugs. Nothing seems to work, I am now seeing a infectious Dr. What do you think of iv antibotics?
thanks
Robin
Hi Robin,
Firstly I am sorry you are suffering from this problem, psudemonas is not a nice bacteria. Unfortunately, it is has a high resistance to penicillins and many other anti biotics which makes it difficult to get rid of. However, some psudemonas are sensitive to piperaciliin, tobramycin, imipenem, cyprofloxacin and ticarcillin... although these are still not guaranteed to work. I don't know what anti biotics they have already tried you on, some of these may be worth a try. I really hope you can get a doctor to help you.
Regards, Dee.
