Does Anyone Hurt Like This???

I am now into day 8 of IBS hell and pain.  My #1 problem right now is gas.  For some reason, my body is now producing massive quantities of gas.  This is causing a backup of large gas bubbles in my intestines and colon.

I never just get bloating with gas.  I get severe pain all over.  The pain contanstly moves around hitting me on my sides, across my back and especially on the right side of my back below my shoulder blade.  THe pain is vey sharp and feels like someone is just clawing hard at me.  It hurts the worse when I get up from sitting in a chair or reach up to grab something.

Ive been having these symptoms for the last month, but usually when I released a lot of gas,  they would go away.  I spent yesterday in my office constantly passing gas.  I was in so much pain that I didn't care if people heard me.  The pains still did not go away!

Does anyone have pains like this, or can suggest a hardcore way to kill gas trapped in the colon?  Funny thing is I am passing my bowels normally so I don't understand where all the gas is coming from.  I had this problem two years ago, and the gas even showed up on xrays!

Sorry to hear about your pains.  I (like the other post) have not had confirmation of IBS but have been told that is what I have.  I also may have some other issue as my test for autoantibodies (ANA) is off the chart - possible preLupus.  I have been having abdominal pain so bad I just wanted to cry.  Only thing I have found to help is heat.  At home I take a really warm bath (as warm as I can tolerate).  At work I use a heating pad.  Sometimes pain meds work but depending on your situation you may or may not be able to tolerate those.  If you are a soda drinker you may want to keep a mental log to see if the gas is worse with one type of soda versus another.  I have found some brands of soda seem to give me more upset than others.  (Yes I have tried to eliminate caffeinated sodas but so far only able to reduce amount).  Best of luck.

Something to look into...check with your doctor to test for celiac disease. It mimics IBS and causes a lot of gas pain. If that is the case then you have developed an allergy to gluten and have to change your diet....I am going through testing right now at the Mayo clinic and that was one thing they tested for because my symptoms are very similar.
I feel your pain!!   Good luck!

I totally understand. I have never been for test to confirm my IBS though the symptoms all point towards it. My pains that I get are so overwhelming sometimes i have to keel over and sit so still for minutes at a time, they pretty much take my breath away. It feels like someone it tearing a knife through my stomach. However mine are usually followed with extreme dihorrea so maybe you're a bit luckier than I on that front.

Sorry I cant suggest anything but I suppose atleast you know you are not alone!! There are medications out there specifically for IBS sufferers - maybe give them a go. I also like to keep a food diary so I can pin point certain things that do it to me.
