I am looking for some suggestions here. I was diagnosed with IBS a long, long time ago. Every day, I have to use the bathroom a minimum of 5 times within a 2 or 3 hour period, then I'm usually ok after that until I get anxious or have a panic attack, so I do know that the IBS is linked to my anxiety. These symptoms are old and I've lived with them forever and am kind of used to it.
The new things, however, are that I now, especially after eating meals with high bread content, wake up in the middle of the night in excruciating pain...get gas pains, eventually it turns into diarrhea and horrible gas pains, and usually passes within a few hours. By the next morning, it is usually back to normal. This only seems to have happened at night, and happens after eating things like pasta, bread, etc. A dietician friend of mine suggested celiac disease, and I suppose that could be right, but when I asked my doctor about it a while back, she said it was all just anxiety (she will not look past my anxiety issues no matter what I go in for--I recently tore my rotator cuff and at first she tried to tell me the pain was from stress).
In addition to these problems, my stomach is often distended, bloated, I often have gas, no appetite, I get full really easily, have GERD, I'm tired all the time. Other issues include, anxiety, depression, panic attacks. I am not a binge eater and actually do eat fairly healthy. I find that if I avoid most bread products, I do feel better, and at one point I tried the South Beach diet and felt better than ever on that. I am planning on getting into that again, but just wanted some opinions on whether this sounds like typical IBS or if I should maybe ask my M.D. to look into celiac or something else.
