I had been on paxil 20 mg. for about 20 years and decided to get off of it because it could be messing with another situation I have been suffering with for 3 years, which is cervical dystonia in my neck.  The first week of being totally off of the paxil, after weaning myself off of it, I had all kinds of pain, nausea, dizziness, hot flashes and feeling cold.  The pain in my lower right side stayed with me for about 2 months when most everything else passed.  Had a colonostomy, it was fine.  So, then it was decided to take my ovaries and appendix out to find out what was wrong.  Another words, 3 doctors (primary care, ob-gyn and gastroenterologist) didn't know.  Well, that surgery went fine with them removing some scar tissue.  It has been almost a month and I still have the lower right sided pain.  But I sometimes feel it on the left now, too.  After reading the book, IBS for Dummies, I am sure this is what is going on with me and it all started with the paxil withdrawal.  And no, my doctor never warned me about any of it.  In fact, my primary care doc didn't think much of me reading this book.  I have gotten a lot of info from this book and it seems to be helping.

Could you tell me if having your gallbladder removed help with the right sided pain. I also have the same symptoms and am scheduled to have my gallbladder removed but I want to try to be sure the pain is caused by the gallstones and not the IBS. My right sided pain lasts for days and I was told that gallstone attacks only last for a couple of hours. Please tell me how long you suffered with the pain and whether the removal of your gallbladder helped or not.

thanks so much

I have a similar situation. I have irritable bowel symdrom and had right pain. It turns out I also had gallstones and I had to have my gall bladder removed. It might be something you want to check into, just in case. If it is your gall bladder, the surgery was very easy recovery. I had survery 3 days before Christmas and by Christmas I was fine, just a little hunched over. But good luck and I'd check it out just in case :) Hope all is well!
