kidney and flank pain

My husband is 33 years old. About a year ago he started getting kidney stones. A little over a month ago he passed a kidney stone. The next day he had extreme kidney and flank pain with nausea. It never goes away. He also has blood in his urine. We have been to several doctors and had several tests done including xrays ct scans and ultrasound. They have done blood tests and urine tests but have yet to find a cause. Has anyone ever experienced this and found a diagnosis? We know it's not a stone at this point. We are desperate for answers as he can barely function. Thank you in advance for your suggestions.
