Asymptomativ UPJ

I have been diagnosed with UPJ obstruction ( female 53 yrs) I have never had kidney pain and only one UTI in my life. Nuclear scan gave t1/2 in right kidney of 89 mins, but both kidneys undamaged as yet. Since I have learnt of the existance of this UPJ obstruction, I am paranoid about every tweek and pain in my back. (I do a lot of sport and have an old back injury) If the partial blockage got worse how would I know? Has anyone gone from asympromatic to symptomatic? What happened? Can your kidney be damaged without u knowing? (I mean with this problem...I know it is possible in general) The surgeon is not inclined to operate whilst I am asymptomatic, so it is sort of up to me to go back when there is a problem. I am a champion worrywort and this is doing my head in. Any help would be appreciated

I am a 21 year old female and i just got diagnosed with this, i have had excrutiating pain for almost a year now. It was especially bad after drinking alcohol. I went to several doctors and the ER a couple times, with no luck. Everybody kept saying nothing was wrong with me, but the pain suggested otherwise. Finally a urologist figured it out, thank God. I am having it operated on in two weeks, never thought i would be excited about surgery. If this causes pain you WILL know. Hope everything works out for you, hope you never have to endure the pain i did.

Thanks for your help. It makes me feel less worried about all the minor twinges I am having. ( And by minor I mean I actually have to stop and think if there is anything happening at all) Since I last posted I had a test which involved drinking lots of water and then having a diuretic. NOW I know what kidney pain is! However it went completely in 24 hours. Is your husband going to be operated on? What has he been told about the operation and what are the other options (if any)

ny husband as the same thing except his is symptomatic. I cannot believe they wouldnt operate, to me it seems foolish just waiting for it to get bad. However from what my husband experiences, is excruciating pain in his back, so i believe it would be go when the pain s bbbaaaadddd or inthe meantime talk to another surgeon.
