Kidney stones

I was in hospital in extreme pain last night. After being examined, blood tests and x-rays i was told i have kidney stones.I have read alot about it but my main question is will it hurt when i pee it out. I mean its agony with it travelling and now i can feel the pain near my pelvis and i am scared to pee incase it damages me.

Sorry if this sounds like a really silly question.

Ok so i am waiting to see a urologist on the 10th of september. I had another day of really bad pain but this time it was low down in my pelvic area then after that day i havent had any problems atol. I havent had to take my pain killers for over a week. Im just wondering if i have somehow done a pee and got rid of it without realising or do u think i would notice. Or do u think it is in my bladder just sitting there.

Hi,

Kidney stones often do not cause any symptoms. Usually, there is extreme pain, which begins suddenly when a stone moves in the urinary tract and blocks the flow of urine. If the stone is too large to pass easily, pain continues as the muscles in the wall of the narrow ureter try to squeeze the stone into the bladder. As the stone moves and the body tries to push it out, blood may appear in the urine, making the urine reddish. As the stone moves down the ureter, closer to the bladder, a person may feel the need to urinate more often or feel a burning sensation during urination. However, if the stones are small, there is no problem and they usually go with the urine.

It is better to urinate to remove the stones than to have them stuck in your urinary tract which could lead to more severe pain and may require surgery. It is best to drink plenty of fluids to help with urinating. Pain medications may also be used to help with the pain.

Take care and keep us posted.
