Post surgical pain related to CO2 gas used during a hernia repair operation.

I was discharged 48 hours ago but the trapped gas behind my transplanted kidney (which is in the front of my body is extreme.

The pain is not improving nor was i warned this might happened as a result of the CO2 used to make the laprocopic procedure easier.

I am prescribed heavy narcotics since my original transplant operation and have never had pain this bad that cant be treated with large doses of Oxycontin...

Tonight alone i have taken 160mg of Oxycodone (4 40mg Oxycontin tablets) along with a 30mg temazepam and 4 hours later i am still unable to sleep or even get out of bed without choking back cries of anguish. I normally only take 80mg a day of Oxycodone yet even this extreme dose has not helped me... what can I do to free this trapped gas because as you well know the gas isnt in my gastro-tract but instead trapped under random organs.

I am miserable.

The Co2 can be more overwhelming then the surgery its self it usually goes up the the right shoulder tip and is recommended that you sleep at a 30 degree elevation to help with the discomfort. A warm blanket on the abdomin may help and don't dispair it will resolve it just takes time.

I am so sorry to hear about your extreme pain. My heart goes out to you. Please forgive my tardy response. I have having some major computer problems.

Although you are always welcome at the Pain Management Forum you post may receive more responses in a forum more appropriate to your problem and concerns. Our focus is more on long erm chronic pain. So because I want you to receive the best available information I am requesting that your post be evaluated by our astute Moderators for a possible move to a more appropriate forum.

What I can suggest is that you contact your physician/surgeon. I think you require medical attention/evaluation as soon as possible.

Best of Luck to You,
~Tuck
