Contour abnormalitity

On my last CT scan of abdomen (liver/kidney) the doctor writing the report states,
"Slight contour abnormality within the right kidney corresponds to an area of irregular enhancement, measuring 2.2cm in size. (6 month prior scan by another doctor read 16mm).
Impression: "Ill defined hypodensity in the posterior right kidney as above, also stable in size. Appearance remains indeterminate."
Recommendation: Continued CT follow-up to document the stability of the hepatic and right renal abnormalities. MRI may be useful to better characterize the liver and right kidney anormalities.

I don't see the ID folks until the 25th, but I went and picked up my own copies from the hospital. I have been waiting to treat Hepatitis C due to lesions on liver/kidney which were seen during liver biopsy 6 months ago. From what I gather from reading both reports is the the liver lesion increased by 2mm, while the kidney lesion increased by 6mm. I understand that the increases are not huge, but there is a increase of both. My main question is WTH does "Appearance remains indeterminate" mean?? I take it to mean that they (he) don't know what it is. Can anyone give me their thoughts on this? I mainly stay on the HCV forum, but thought I'd come here to ask about the kidney lesion/irregular enhancement/abnormalitity. Thanks all, I'll check back, Take care, Mike
