Make sure they perform the ultrasound on the day he is born. This ultrasound will show the size of the kidney which is very important because it is suppose to shrink within the first year. If it does shrink the only thing that we know has to be done is a repeat ultrasound every few years to keep an eye on the good kidney to make sure there are no changes with it. My son who is now 15months has MCDK. It was diagnosed when I was 20 weeks pregnant. It seemed we had been blessed with no issues until his ultrasound last month which shows his kidney that is affected is growing instead of shrinking and now they want to perform surgery to take it out.
