Elevated ALT, AST with diabetes

I am Type 2 diabetic with hypertension. I have history of elevated liver enzymes when I was in my 20's with no alcohol use.No tests ever ran when i was younger. I am now 51. I have hypopituatarism. During routine lab work, my endo found my ALT(86) and AST (52)to be elevated. My A1C was 9.2 down from 11.5. My LBL cholesterol was 156 and HDL was 58. Triglycerides were 103 and total cholesterol 235. Normal white and red blood count. Creatinine 0.77, sodium 141, albumin 4.5, globulin 3.0, bilirubin 0.8,alkaline phosphatase 89, white and red blood count normal, cortisol 6.1, growth hormone 0.1, T4 1.2, prolactin 4.7, TSH 3rd generation is 1.27, T3, free is 266, IGF-I was 90. All other bloodwork was within normal ranges. I was a social drinker(1 day a week--2 or 3 drinks ) but short term use. I have not dranked since 2/05. my drinking was very short term and infrequent. I am negative for hepatitis. What do you think and what needs to be done next? Could this be cancer or tumor or fatty liver?

Thanks for the feedback Sir.. I am not overweight and I have been on a very strict diet since my diagnosis with diabetes last August. I work out everyday and have for years. I am also a power walker. So I will just keep it up.

Diabetics seem to be at an increased risk for fatty liver.  IF your outside normal weight range for your height, thats a further risk for developing it.

Your enzymes arent all that high....and while anything is possible, I would think if you hear thundering hooves in the darkness that it may be horses...and not unicorns.

If you are overweight (and i dont know - you mentioned everything but your height/weight) then I would focus on getting at the low range of normal via diet and increased physical activity.  as for the ALT/AST, at those levels I would think most MD's would re-test every 3-6 months.
