It's not known exactly what causes irritable bowel syndrome. The walls of the intestines are lined with layers of muscle that contract and relax in a coordinated rhythm as they move food from your stomach through your intestinal tract to your rectum. If you have irritable bowel syndrome, the contractions may be stronger and last longer than normal. Food is forced through your intestines more quickly, causing gas, bloating and diarrhea.
Triggers for IBS can range from gas or pressure on your intestines to certain foods, medications or emotions due to stress or hormones. For these reasons it may be important for you to discuss your circumstance with a Gastroenterologist. Though your liver is only slightly irritated and can easily recover, prolonged irritation over a span of 15-20 years can lead to liver disease. Slight irritation that is sporadic and temporary is likely to be harmless.
Poor diet, alcohol abuse and medications are common causes for irritation. There are many other causes and the objective here needs to be to remove the cause allowing the liver to recover. If your IBS is a symptom of poor eating habits then together these two could be causing the irritation to your liver. A gastroenterologist is the most qualified doctor to help you sort this out.
I hope this helps and I wish you the best.

thanks! i also suffer from Irritable bowel syndrome from a long time as a result my digestion is an issue at times as it alternates between constipation and loose motions...any advise?
Your cholesterol is borderline and your triglycerides are high. Your ALT/SGPT is elevated meaning your liver is slightly irritated probably due to poor diet. I see no reason for great concern. I do recommend a stricter diet and retest in 3 months. Set a reasonable goal for your weight, with diet and exercise you could make a significant impact and feel much healthier. Your liver will return to perfect health with little effort :)
Good luck and Happy Holidays!
