Gallstones?? Have you had an experience like this?

My mum has had some upper abdomen discomfort for a few months now but in the last week has experienced three 'attacks'. By attacks I mean for a few minutes, so far up to about 6 minutes, she suffers severe, 10/10 pain in her upper abdomen. She's described it as a cramping feeling and it feeling like being in labour for a few minutes. We didn't think it was related to food but thinking about it it seems to occur between an hour and half to three hours after eating the evening meal.
She has been to see the GP who mentioned gallstones and not much else and scheduled her for a blood test in a weeks time for which we wont get the results until a week after that.
The second time she had an episode of pain I panicked and rang an ambulance for her. The paramedic also said it sounds like gallstone pain and advised her not to eat fatty foods at all until she gets diagnosed. We've been doing that diet for two days now and she hasn't had an attack. She has however had one bout of diarrhea.
I'm a bit of a worry wart and instantly convinced myself she must has some sort of liver disease or cancer.
Has anybody else experienced gallstone pain like this or have any of these symptoms and know what causes it? I know we'll have answers soon but the anxiety of waiting two weeks is getting it to me.
Thankyou for any replies, i realise this isnt the most straightforward question. x

I wanted to mention my Mother-in-law also had these attacks.  The painwould come and go, severe pain.  She could not have surgery to remove the gallbladder so was told to avoid all fat as that activates the gallbladder.
Good luck!

You are very welcome.  If I were  you I would ask the doctor to check her gall bladder.  To see this problem you would need to get an ultrasound or even a CT scan

Hi there, yes it could be her gall bladder. I am surprised the hospital did not do an ultrasound or more. When my husband had a pain, it was so bad I thought he was having a heart attack, it started in his abdomen, back, then chest.  The pain was so bad he could not talk.  After an hour a nurse said we are looking in the wrong area, I think it's his gallbladder.  He had to have emergency surgery as his gallbladder was about to burst.
I'm also surprised that the doctor is putting off checking what is wrong.
Yes, the diarrhea can also be part of it. It is a good idea to her to completely cut out any fat as that activates the gallbladder to work.
If she gets the pain again, call 911

Because her attacks are relatively short to those I've read about by the time the paramedic got to us the pain had stopped and so she didn't go to hospital. Thankyou for replyig, its nice to hear from people who have had similar experiences:)

Forgot to mention she also has a hiatus hernia and high blood pressure. The paramedic said she was susceptible to gallstones because she was 'fat, fair and forty'.
The thing is she is overweight but she isn't incredibly overweight and leads an active lifestyle due to her job and our very hyper dog.
