Hi,
I am also looking for a possible connection between thrush and terry's nails. I happen to have both, and I was looking to know if the former could cause the latter. Did you find out for yourself, and providing that you cured your candida, did your nails revert to their original condition?
Thanks.
Sebastien
Dear Mr Chandra
I have noticed recently that I have terrys nails, I also have candida (thrush) on my tongue. Is there any connection between them?
I also read that if liver is responsible for the change of nail color than it is usually due to it's very bad state like cirhosis. Hepatitis (inflamation) is also mentioned for terrys nails, is it correct that hepatitis can do this? Or what they mean is that hepatitis will first damage liver and then nails will change color?
Can youi tell me I could have caught hep c from my husband
Dear tjaz,
Thanks for writing in.
Most of the Candida infections are treated with azoles. Even though azoles have hepatotoxicity, they are still the drug of choice for fungal infections in Cirrhotics and acute liver failure. So I think that a 7 day course of Monistat cream would be safe for use in early Candida infection in a person with liver disease (provided the person is not having decompensated liver disease). Other effective drugs like amphotericin B and Echinocandins are injectables and are used in cases who do not respond and in patients with decompensated liver disease. These have minimal liver side effects but are costly.
Hence the choice of drug would be based on the stage of the disease, severity of the infection and affordability
