Lyme Disease: Problems even after antibiotics

I have lyme disease and for 4 months have not been able to go to sleep till 2, 3 or even 7 in the morning.  When I finally  do get to sleep i sleep till 3 in the afternoon, and i don't sleep soundly anymore. I am currently on doxycycline for lyme and ondansetron for nausea from the doxy. My sleeping still hasn't gotten any better, I was given lorazepam by my doctor, and went to the health store for melatonin. I am hesitant to take either of these because of the side-effects and possible addiction. i also don't know how they will they will effect my other meds. Has anyone else found something effective for this or has tried any sleeping pills that worked?

I was taking Benedryl to get to sleep, but it produces strange dreams sometimes.

I have not read anything about why Lyme etc. mess with one's internal clock, but it sure seems to be the case.

Now that my treatment is taking effect, I am sleeping much much better, but sometimes get thrown off.

Did your dr okay the melatonin?  If not, you might check with a pharmacist, they have been very helpful to me.

I wouldn't worry about getting addicted to anything at this point:  your dr will cut you off at some point short of that, I'm guessing.  The important thing is get restful, dreaming sleep so your body can heal.  I am still catching up on lost sleep over the past few years.  It makes a big difference.

Welcome to the forum.  Sleep is a huge problem for me too.  I take  a sleep med myself.  It helps but I still wake up.  I have trouble falling asleep too.  I'm not sure what the answer is.
