I was at the LLMD yesterday, and he asked me if I had any skin bumps and he checked my arms and neck for them, but I don't have any. I think it could be related and even though they look similar to acne, they are probably something else.
Speaking of the 40 thing, I started having skin break outs after I turned 40. Never had it before. Anyway, I went to the dermatologist for it and she put me on Aldactone. It sure helps. The medicine keeps your skin from reacting to hormonal changes. Mine is related to hormonal changes (old age) ! The pattern is different than what you guys describe .
I have been getting this also. My LLMD and I had wondered if it was a "toxin" issue, exiting through the skin. I will be interested to hear what others think.
Mine are in odd spots (plus I am 40....) right above eye brows, under ears and down neck and on back. They are hard and small and not exactly like anything I've ever had before. I am treating it like a normal breakout with benzoyl peroxide gel and it helps...but I have to stay on it.
wonko-
I am also on Mino and have recently had more breakouts, especially on my forehead! I thought it odd to get more zits on an abx usually used for acne!
I also relate this type of breakout to a higher TSH for me. I am hypothyroid as well.
I have a phone consult this week with my doctor and a follow up appt 2 weeks after that. I will ask at one or the other what is up with this.
Thanks for the reply, patsy10, even if it's outside of your experience.
It is weird how my nose (all over it, not just the edges!) and my forehead along my hairline are exclusively exhibiting this problem. They are not like blemishes I normally get, they are smaller, harder, and more persistent. Yeck.
It makes sense that if it was a reaction to meds, it would be more widespread. Hormonal makes more sense. It just strikes me as odd since Mino is used to prevent acne.
Unfortunately, my next two LLMD appts. had to be rescheduled and pushed back (one due to my schedule, one due to the LLMD's schedule). So while I want to ask about this and more, I'll need to wait a bit.
Thanks for the advice in the meantime, and hopefully my face clears up soon!
I'm not sure about your situation. It really doesn't make sense. I would guess it has to do with the illness since you are already on antibiotics. Or maybe hormonal. A reaction to meds would probably be all over.
