Hello!
What you described sounds exactly like classic and severe lyme disease symptoms to me.
Getting "phantom" smells is a well known lyme symptom and the commonest one is burning. When I was in the lyme disease clinic in Germany, 3 of the 9 patients there had this burning smell all the time.
The "infected limbs" you feel is also a symptom I get so much, and I had the spelling problems too - in fact for one year I was completely unable to read or write.
Anyway, what you need is to find a doctor who specialises in lyme disease and don't waste your time and money on other doctors, as ones who do not specialise in it usually don't know how to recognise the symptoms and even if they do, they don't give you enough antibiotics to cure it.
Email www.ilads.org immediately and ask them to recommend a few lyme specialist doctors in your area.
They will be able to tell you which lab to get tested at (i.e. a reliable one) and give you the right treatment.
Good luck and stay in touch, OK?
That was a very nice post. Thank you.
Welcome to MedHelp -- whether or not you have Lyme disease, we can't say, but I think you are doing the right thing to consider it as a possibility.
There is a split in the medical community on how serious Lyme is, but anyone who has had it does take it seriously, and there are MDs who also take it seriously. The trick is finding an MD approaches it aggressively.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Some ideas:
1 -- We have had some posters here who are in the UK, so you might post a new brief message titled something like "Need LLMD near Nottingham, England" and that may catch someone's eye here.
2 -- I would also do an online search for something like
-- nottingham lyme disease --
I just did that and got some interesting links to follow in your area. There is often a Lyme 'community' in a particular area, and they know who the good physicians are and how to get effective treatment.
3 -- search online for
-- england "lyme disease" --
and you will find links to patient-focussed groups that often have excellent information on how to find a physician who understands Lyme. The "quote" marks around 'lyme disease' are needed in the search, otherwise you pick up many links referring not to the disease, but to Lyme Regis in Dorset.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you do not have Lyme or other infections the same ticks often carry, a Lyme specialist will tell you that. The problem is with non-Lyme-specialists, who all too often do not factor in Lyme as a possibility in considering a diagnosis, and if they do factor it in, they often do not give appropriate treatment, which leaves the infection in place.
Best wishes to you -- let us know if we can help further --
I'm sorry you're having such an awful time.
You didn't mention the types of doctors you've seen---- or the medications they've tried for you---- or the results of those medication.
I see, on your profile, that you're desperate and have posted on many different forums in your attempt to find help.
Your list of problems is disturbing and I can see why you're trying to find some help but none of us here are doctors and even a doctor couldn't diagnose you via the Internet.
Please find a doctor. If s/he doesn't help you, find another one. I hope you can find some help.
