Am I in Menopause

I am a 45 year old women who has been very active.  I ran two half marathans in the past year.  The most recent in May.  In July I was diagnosed with DVT and PE.  I am on Coumadin.  I am having side effects which some doctors don't really recognize as side effect.  However, there are many instances on discusson boards of people with the same side effects.  They are headache, heart palpatations, light headedness, depression, not felling well, fatige.

This month out of nowere I started getting really bad hot flashes.  As many as 10 or 12 a day.  I usually feel light headed while I have them.  My blood pressure has been all over the map.  The doctor ran some blood test and my FSH level came back at 74.  The doctor told me I am postmenopausal.  I told him guess again I have been getting my period (extra heavey since the coumadin).  Could I be in menopause or is it the medicine?  Could there be any other reason that would fit with my symptons?

No I am not on birth control.  I might have forgotten to state that I have a fibroid tumor so that also attributes to my bleeding.  No my periods have not changed if anything they are heavier since I started the medication.  I have had my estrogen checked but the results were not back yet.  My coumadin levels are in a good range.  It is all very frustrating because I had absolutley no symthons until this month with the hot flashes.  And they happen all day long.  I really don't know what to believe because most people tell me it is a gradual process not somehting that happens overnight like this has.

Hi and I have to say I have similar problems.I'll write about mine later.
I think you are peri-menopausal. Are you on birth control and have you had your estrogen level taken? You are not truely menopausal until you have no periods for 12 months in a row and your estrogen is usually low. You could be bleeding due to the coumadine but you would be bleeding elsewhere probably. Is your coumadine level ok? The hot flashes sound like your close to menopause. Have your periods gotten shorter or lighter or started later?
I have night sweats only so far and my period starts late and is very very light. I am 48. So, I would go to another doctor and if you are on birth control get off of it for a month and get your estrogen checked. That is what i'm giong to do.
good luck it is hard.
