Could this be menopause? help!

I would appreciate some help if possible with a question on menopause or perimenopause. I'm 47 and have had irregular light periods for the last couple of years-not really a problem I thought as I take the mini pill. Six months ago my periods stopped altogether which I thought was the start of the menopause, then in this last month I have had three periods lasting a week each. Now I have started to have a small amount of bleeding each day and I wondered if it was normal? Do I need to talk to my doctor about this to maybe think about HRT as osteoporosis runs in my family. I really would be grateful for any advice anyone has for me.
Thank you in anticipation.

Thank you so much for your comments and advice Eve-and for taking the time to write to me. I know it sounds silly not knowing what to do about this but as I have no pain associated with it I assumed it was ok, it is only this last month when my worries have started to appear.
As for the HRT I only asked about that as my mother was on it-she was one of the people with osteoporosis and I'm sorry for my ignorance but I thought that it was my only option. I will do some research as you suggested and make an appointment with my GP. Once again many thanks for your time and advice, all the best to you, Jac.

Hi jacbak,

I just finished reading your comments. I think you should definitely talk to
your family doctor about this. As for your idea to think about HRT or hormone replacement therapy. Please do some research about HRT
before you decide to use it, google the topic etc. You will find HRT
has a possible link with breast cancer. You don't need HRT. There
are other alternatives. You say osteoporosis runs in your family. Even
so you don't have to take HRT. A family member took HRT for almost
20 years plus actually. Her genecologist put her on it. Five years ago
she was diagnosed with breast cancer. I wish you the best. Eve
