Hormones??????

Hello,
I had a complete hysterectomy 5 years ago and have never taken any hormone replacement.  I have been having back problem and went to a orthopectic dr. and he flipped out when I told him I was not taking any replacement or vitamins.  He wants me to make an appointment with a OBGYN and start taking hormones.  I think I probably need them because of these symptoms: hot flashes, severe fatigue, fuzzy mind, short term memory loss, hair thinning, and I go through spells were I have a hard time sleeping.  I probably should have done something about this sooner, but I tend to ignore things.  I went back for my 6 week check up after the hysterectomy but havent been back to the doctors since.  Ok I am ashamed to say I work in a hospital as a Medical Assistant and I should know better.  My question is bio or not????

There are alternatives to hormones, please reconsider... I've had HORRIBLE full menopause symptoms for two years (I'm 46) and I can tell you too many friends have done HRT and the bio and gotten sick with cancer or felt worse once on the hormones and had to go through the mess of coming off them. Menopause is a miserable, long suffering thing to go through but you can feel better with aggressive exercise, supplements and soy or phyto estrogen creams and progesterone creams.

Try everything 1st before resorting to deadly hormones!

Are you taking hormone replacement?  Do you feel better?  I have no mood swings, in fact I feel much better since I had the hyster.  I had terrrible periods and was very sick for a lot of years.  I always felt that emotionaly I feel better but my body is taking a beating.

Bio is very expensive, so that is one factor to consider. Also, the dr that RX's them needs to have a good understanding of them. The one I am seeing, does not. She just issues them as part of a cosmetic approach. I have long term hormonal imbalance and she does not understand how to deal with that.

as far as the cancer scare, I am not sure if Bios have been around long enough to really determine the true answer to that.

I am in a quandry thinking about switching. some things you just don't know.
