hot flashes stopped and periods started up again

I am 53.  Had no periods for 6 months and hot flashes like crazy.  Then hot flashes stopped and have periods two months in a row.  Is this normal?  I was hoping all this foolishness was over.

I am going though the same thing but down to one period a year for the past 2 years!!! Last year I got it in July just as I was going away on vacation .. of all things!!!! What luck!!! I had it for a full 7 days for the whole trip!!! So..next month if I don't get it.. it will be a full year and I hope that means I will NOT get it any longer and I will be in menopause!!! I haven't looked in to it but does that mean no more hot flashes???? I dont feel like I have an oven inside of me anymore... I just am usually always very very warm!!!!
So, what you are going through is normal!! It might take you a couple of years before yours completely stops. (a few years for me)!!!! Good luck!!! :)

I think that sounds fairly normal.  I am down to just a period every 10 months or so for the past couple of years.  Hot flashes are less troubling now than a few years ago.

Wish it would just hurry up and stop already.

Im going through it as well. Nothing since August 2012 then 7 weeks agao it started. Ugh. Very heavy for weeks then slows, then returns to heavy again. Been getting light headed and feeling pretty weak on and off and really feeling exhausted. A friend of mine said similar happened to her and her sister. Hot flashes were not too bad and didnt last very long at all. I think I made have had about a dozen or so hot flashes in a months time, Then that was it for the hot flashes. But now its been 7 weeks with this and Im getting so frustrated. Im so tired of being tired

Thanks for your response.  For the last week I have been having what I would describe as well as the worst period of my life.  Terrible pain and extremely heavy flow.  I have an appointment with my family doctor tomorrow; I just don't want to have to have a  hysterectomy.  I honestly would rather have the hot flashes!!  Thanks again,  Sherry

Hi sjseely,

I just finished reading your comments. You said you had no periods for
6 months and hot flashes like crazy, I believe you words were. You also
said you are 53. Then you said the hot flashes have stopped and you
have had a period two months in a row. Okay. Apparently to be considered
menopausal, you will have had to go one year without any periods at all.
I'm four years older than you. I became menopausal at age 55. You asked
if this is normal ? I would say yes. My doctor told me before I became menopausal not to be surprised if suddenly I got my period even after going
several months without a period. That's exactly what happened. Without
going into too much detail, a few months before my periods stopped for
good, I had the worst and most painful periods of my life. I was so thankful
when my periods stopped for good. What I experienced several months
before they ended for good won't necessarily happen to you.
What I think may be happening is that you are still perimenapausal , but
that perhaps menopause is not too far away. If you're concerned, you
could make an appointment with your family doctor just for an opportunity
to ask any questions you might want to ask your doctor. Atleast the hot
flashes have disappeared for now you said. I wish you well . Eve :)

I have a friend that had the same thing happen to her.  She had hot flashes and no periods for almost a year. Then all of a sudden really heavy periods monthly and no hot flashes. She is 48.
