perimenopause/postmenopuse?

Hi!
I have recently gone to see my ob/gyn in early May,suppose everything chkd out fine with the pap test..
I had asked him that lately my periods were getting lighter but still had it every month,do you think I am starting menopause? I am 47.He seemed to think I was to young for that yet, however my mother started at the young age of 41 n by 42 was completely done,my 3 older sisters were all in their 40s when they started n finished,so I didn't think it was to early for me to start at 47! in fact my sisters say that im the longest to start.
So he gave me a blood test to see if I am,the results came out that im post menopause! the very beginning. That to me means im NOT SUPPOSE to be having periods even being light right? but im having it every month although the discharge is brown like when your ending.
I have not panicked because I figured he would've called me if anything was wrong. No phone call.

Just yesterday I began my period again like I do every month even if my numbers say im POSTMENOPAUSE.
I am scared this month because my period is heavy! as it hasn't been for a while now.

I will call my doctor tomorrow,n see what he says, but has anyone had this problem or similar?
You all know what im thinking, the worse yes, cancer.

HELP!!!!

Hi Yuki,

You're very welcome. I'm glad you found my comments helpful.
You know what basically the same thing happened to me when I was
nearing a year of no periods. My female doctor had cautioned me that this may happen, so when it did, I wasn't as shocked as I would have been had
she not warned me of this possibility. It's good you've got an appointment
with your doctor. I wish you well. Eve

Thank You eve for responding! Yes I have n apt with my male doc on Monday.Well,no symptoms besides the shocking of a heavy period lead me to think something could be the awful word of cancer.Im hypochrondriac n that tells you a lot.

I guess I don't know quite as much as I thought I did with menopause,n that's why I panicked when all of a sudden my period came heavy compared to the last 6-7 months of light.Thank you so much for your comment,it has relieved my mind a little.
Believe it or not I cant wait to see my doctor! Yikes!

Hi Yuki,

I just finished reading your comments. As someone who is menopausal,
so no periods whatsoever, I can tell you that this is sort of what I went
through. To be menopausal, you wouldn't have had  a period for a year.
You say all the women in your family were menopausal at an early age.
It's quite possible you are approaching menopause. My doctor who is
a female physician told me to expect possible heavy periods sometimes
and that the periods would vary sometimes being light, sometimes heavy.
I not quite sure about your reference to the numbers say I'm postmenopause.
Anyway, call your doctor. See what he says. It sounds to me like you're
approaching menopause. What about your symptoms makes you think
cancer?  I'm not a medical professional, but in my opinion, it doesn't
sound like cancer to me. You also might consider trying to find a female
doctor. Female doctors seem to have more understanding of these things.
I guess because they're females. I feel more comfortable discussing female issues with a female doctor. Oh well. Best of luck to you. Eve
