My Urologist is recommending TUIP as I have an overly constricted Urethra at the base of the bladder/prostate. I also suspect my bladder may be overstretched slightly due to excessive water consumption (volume of just over 1000ml on last visit to urology dept though I normally release well before this). The problem is that I am unable to completely void my bladder and this results in a chronic urinary infection. I am taking Tamsulosin - this helps but does not fix the problem.
My prostate is normal (I am 45 years old).
I have two questions -
1) If the problem is due to combination of an overly restrictive urethra plus possible bladder weakness then is a TUIP likely to result in much better voiding?
2) Other than the 6 weeks or so following the operation, will I still be able to cycle regularly (competative time trials)
thanks.
Yes, you are right, I also find that the ' Post a Question ' selection is not available in that Forum and that the last post there is in Sept.2010. I guess , Dr. Stephen is not nowadays answering questions. You could try posting at the Forum link given in my previous post.
In any case, before opting for an operation, better to try other medicines, as I read from the Net that some patients have post operative difficulties for many months. You have also mentioned that your prostate is normal, in that case, urine retention may be due to an asymmetry of the bladder. Better to reduce on your cycling and take a second opinion from another urologist. If you have access to alternative medicines, you may also try that urinary infection, but urine retention will still be a problem.
Good luck,
