Why is my scrotum skin sensitive painful/burning when I touch?

Three weeks ago I had a left direct and indirect inguinal hernia repaired. My left scrotum swelled and bruised. Swelling and bruise dissipated. However, the scrotum skin, left side, burns/hurts when I touch it. The right scrotum is fine. What could be causing this? Very concerned.
