Basilar migraine: topiromate (Topamax)

Hi

I have been suffering with dizziness, nausea, headaches, tiredness etc over the past few years and have just had a consultation with a neurologist who thinks I have Basilar Migraine, and believes Topamax will help, has anyone tried this or have any suggestion?

i have been on topamax  for a couple of years now its help me alot  i have arritis im not sure what it is but topamx has help me alot i take 150mg 2 times daily i took it while i was pregant

Thanks for the tips I will look into it further before I try starting Topamax as I want to get back to normal as soon as possible, though I dont want to end up with worse side effects than symptoms!

Hi,

Basilar migraines need close supervision due to some of its debilitating attacks. Topamax is given as a preventive thrapy and also requires close supervision from your physician. Comply with your medications and observe your responses to the drug. Do not taper or stop your medications without first consulting your physician.

Well, it can't hurt to try. I myself use Topamax. I also had many of your symptoms when I was younger and my neuro suspects they may have been BAM. Be aware it may take some time to get used to Topamax..also known in some circles as Dopamax because it can cause you to be drowsy and disconnected and have difficulty with word finding...this is more common in the early weeks of treatment. Your dr. will probably titrate your dosage.

Topomax have helped many of my co-workers and a family member to aliviate or stop migraines. Thats why i tried it my self. but it didnt work for me. Dealing with migraines has left me exposed to try anything. But be aware of the side effects and look out for them some of the meds i have tried actually (2) had strong side effects that I called my doctor the next morning to give my something else. good luck i hope it works!!
