Hi,
As mentioned earlier, symptoms can lead to vision problems and disruption of hormonal balance of the thyroid, adrenal, and gonads. Aside from surgery, treatment options for pituitary adenoma include: medications to control the symptoms and radiation radiation therapy. Small sized-adenomas may be left for observation as long as there is no symptoms. However, in your case, the severe symptoms should be evaluated further. I really suggest that you discuss this with your attending physician for proper management suited for you. Do keep us posted. Best regards.
Hi Rowena Im hainging in there, thank you for asking. Is just so hard to receive the right treatment from Doctors because the Endocrinologist feels like she has nothing to do with my issue and she refers me with the neurologist, and then the neurologist feels there is not much she can do about it, then the neurologist refers me to the pain management Dr. and this one just want to keep me drugged with narcotics and they all just keep me going in circles. My head feels like I'm carrying a brick on top of my head 24/7 that it also causes severe stiff painful neck. Are this all common symptoms of a pituitary adenoma? Is there anything? medicine, treatment or surgery that could fix the problem? And is the size of my pituitary gland big enough? because the Dr's don't seem to think so, although the symptoms are severe.
Hi,
How are you? If surgery is out of the question, you need to inform them that the medicines you are taking are not helpful. A change of prescription or dosage may be indicated. A second opinion may also be done to understand the management plan and one that understands that you are not making your symptoms up. Anxiety and depression are commonly felt in situations that we are not in control. But there are plenty of medications available for this. Aside from this, support and even therapy from your friends and doctor may help a lot. Take care and hope to hear from you soon.
Thank you for your reply Rowena, I have had a couple MRI's now since June of 2009 and they showed that my pituitary gland is enlarged and that it might be a small protrusion of the enlarged pituitary gland into the suprasellar cistern. The size of pituitary gland is 12.2 x 12.7 x 9.7 mm in AP x transverse x craniocaudal dimension. I also had multiple hormonal lab test which shows that all of my hormones are working just fine. But my symptoms are the major cause of my problem, ever since I developed this I have had, severe headaches 24/7, eye pressure, blurred and double vision, a dark spot on my left eye, Stiff painful neck, my jaw feels heavy and big, night sweats, trouble sleeping, anxiety, and depression. This is too much I never had any of this symptoms in my life and there is no family history what so ever. The Dr's dont want to do anything about it, they say surgery is not an option for me. They only keep on giving me narcotics for the pain, anti-anxiety, and anti-depressants that don't help at all. I am only 25 years old and had this condition for 2 years now and is not getting any better. I really want this symptoms to go away to be able to live life again. Pls advice me on what to do? Because I am just tired of the Dr's making it seem like I am making all this symptoms up. Thank you in advance all of your help.
Hi Eren,
How are you? Pituitary adenomas are tumors that occur in the pituitary gland. These are benign and do not spread to other parts of the body. The growths can lead to vision problems because it is near the eyes. It can also lead to growth problems and disrupt the hormonal balance of the thyroid, adrenal, and gonads.Treatment depends on the presence and type of hormones being secreted, the type of tumor and on its size. Discuss the type and management plan with your doctor to ease any worries. Take care and do keep us posted.
