Random pain in top left pain of head

I have recently started to have very random extreme shots of pain occur in the top left side of my head.  It only lasts 3 or 4 seconds, but when it occurs, I causes me to want to grasp my head and close my eyes until it goes away.  It's very excrutiating.  I have no had any type of head trauma and have not been under any type of stress.  I am a female, 29 yrs old and recently had a physical before this started.  I'm in excellent health and exercise at least 4 or 5 days a week.  I am currently training for a half-marathon .... could the long running have anything to do with the pains I am experiencing?  Also, I do not have migraines.  Thanks so much for your help!

How are you? Ice-pick headaches usually present with sharp stabbing, intensely painful headaches that lasts between 5 and 30 seconds. This type of headache is considered a primary headache because there is no underlying cause and they are not considered dangerous or indicative of a serious disorder. However, it is difficult to treat because the headache come and go so quickly. This can be treated with relaxation techniques and medical management. If it persists, you may need to have this evaluated further by your doctor for proper diagnosis. Exertion headache should also be ruled out. Take care and best regards.
