Ritalin for Migraines

Has anyone ever been prescribed Ritalin for Migraines? What is the thought about this?

I am looking for alternative approaches for my chronic migraines, usually 2 migraines per week, 1 of which is completely debilitating. I tried a 5mg dose of Ritalin (1x day) for a week and it was a migraine free week (despite high stress and sleep deprivation due to work). I realize a week is not enough to make a judgement call, so I am looking for advice from those that have tried it for this purpose, or the medical community, before I talk to my neurologist.

I am allergic to triptans, and have tried everything from Topamax (made me nauseous) to Fiorecet to Gabapentin and Tramadol (current as needed treatment).

I am not a doctor, but I am familiar with this medication, and I find it very odd for this paticular drug to be used for headpain.  Because of the nature of this medication, I would not think it would settle a headache.  If you are already not sleeping this drug will not help you sleep.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi,
Ritalin or  Methylphenidate is used to treat attention disorders, depression, and patients with narcolepsy. It is a mild stimulant that works by affecting the levels of neurotransmitters in the nervous system. However, always check with your doctor if you use this medication because it may cause withdrawal reactions and  can also be habit-forming. When used for an extended period, this medication may not work as well. Check with your doctor first for proper management. Take care and best regards.
