Tongue Numbness and leg numbness

Hi,
I have been experiencing tongue numbness now for the last couple of weeks, the underneath of my tongue feels numb and tight, sometimes it tingles or is painful to move, it has not prevented me from speaking but it's not pleasant. It feels like the vein bit underneath is affected, but I have also experienced facial numbness and tingling.

When I mentioned to my neuro about my tongue once before he said it was most likely caused by migraine but he doesn't think the rest of my problems are caused by migraine. In the past when I had the tongue numbness I got the headache and then the tongue numbness went away but this time it won't go away but I have had slight headache on and off and blurring of vision etc. and the pins and needles, numbness in my leg.  My whole leg feels like it's tight and below my naval has been feeling prickly.  I also get like a bad nerve pain that runs down my leg (inside) to my toe, feels like it runs down a set nerve, very painful.

Could this be migraine?  Sometimes I get weird pains/sensations on top of head when this is happening but I don't usually end up with a bad headache.

I have had an MRI and a LP and both were normal.  I have hyperreflexia, clonus, clear sensory line below thoracic, on physical exam. My current neuro believes that I have had an episode of TM (with a lesion mid thoracic and maybe brainstem) although my MRI testing is normal. He also suspects it maybe reoccuring?

I still wonder if it all this could possibly be caused by a weird migraine.  Most of my symptoms have been altered sensation (burning, numbness, pins and needles, prickly sensation or pain)  sometimes my trouser leg just touching my leg can cause pain.  Today I had trouble walking with my foot feeling like it was so asleep. Is this typical of migraine?  I had had some numbness in groin/pubic area and some bladder issues.

Thank you, I would really like some idea if perhaps all I experience could be just a very weird type of migraine.

Cheers,
Udkas

I have a wide range of symptoms that started with a chronic headache that lasted for 8 mo, and then I started getting numerous strange/painful symptoms (you can see my profile if you're curious). I've been told that many of my symptoms are migraine-like, although my case is unusual in that my symptoms are systemic. So what you describe certainly seems plausible.  To date, all of my neuro exams have come out normal.

A neuro might prescribe a stint of prednisone or valproic acid to see if that helps. In my case, the former worked, but the latter did not.

I hope things clear up for you.

hello. I want you to know that someone is listening. I went though an experience where my entire right side of my body went numb, and both legs quit working. I eventually got told I had conversion disorder ( a very very confusing mental condition that I still don't quite understand), but before that they told me it could be a miragine. They said there are things called complex miragines where you may not even have pain in your head but have tingly and numbness in your limbs that eventually goes away. This is possible, I am thinking about you.

Please anyone any ideas?

I assume I am suffering from a form of migraine?

Is there anyway I can prevent this migraine?

It has lasted now for about 3 weeks (maybe longer) so is this migraine?

My neuro thought that my migraines was prob caused by lesion in brainstem?

I wonder because nothing has shown up on tests that it all could just be migraine, I know what I have at the moment feels like migraine.

Do migraines normally last this long with weakness etc., they are quite scary you feel like you are having a stroke.  THe only reason why I assume it's migraine is the visual disturbances I have been having..

Can migraines cause you to have an abnormal neurological exam?

Thanks in anticipation of a reply.

Hi,

I have been told that I have had an episode of Transverse Myelitis that has possibly re-occured, so I am being monitored and under the care of an excellent neurologist.  I do sometimes experience some burning on the right hand side of my face and tongue numbness.  On occasions the tongue numbness is really bad but usually not long lasting but of late often my tongue on the underneath but just feels numb or like pressure or tight sensation.  When this occurs I seem to have some type of head pain but more like a random shooting pain.  I do sometimes get vertigo with my headaches as well and on occasion I have vomited when I have had had a headache at the back of my head (base) near neck.  I find all this seems to be worse when I am experiencing a flare of my other symptoms

When I discussed this with my neurologist (at that stage I had only experienced one episode of tongue numbness) ,he said it was migraine, I rarely get headaches that cause pain or require medication, I am not sensitive to light, noise etc.  I am currently taking Gabapentin  900mg per day for nerve pain, pins and needles, burning etc.

Is there anyway I can prevent this type of migraine from happening as the tongue numbness is happening more frequently in the absence of any real head pain? But sometimes I do get some pain.. I hope this is making sense. There has only been two occasions where the tongue numbness has been severe enough to prevent me from talking. My symptoms can occur both sides but left leg is always worse.

So why am I getting migraines? Are the migraines part of the TM? Or could this be new activity?  My initial symptoms didn't ever involve headache that I was aware of but I do wonder now that perhaps everything is just migraine aura, especially when my repeated MRI are normal, NCS, bloods, LP etc.

The tongue thing is happening more often (tightness or funny feeling on underside of tongue.
Can I prevent them?
Is the tongue numbness something to be concerned about?

Thank you in advance for hopefully answering my question.
By the way I reside in Australia.

Cheers,
Udkas.
