WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME.

I an 51 years old
I visited about 3 neurologists in my lifetime since i was about 10 years old. the last neurologist put me on epilim and azor .5mg - it seem to keep the dizzyness away. if i became dizzy, I was down for quite a few heavy sleeping hours. as soon as i woke up, it was gone. I could never play netball in school, or go dancing with flashing lights etc.
since about a year ago, i started having other symptoms as well. severe dizzyness, out of the blue, knumbness in both legs, shockwave pains shooting up in my legs, my husband has to help me to a bed as I can not even stand let alone walk. slurring speach, can hardly talk.I have to sleep it off, usually by morning it has gone.  I am only on azor ,5mg 3 pills, every morning. this help for the dizzyness, so I believe. my husband want me to go and see another neurologist, as we do not know what is wrong. but due to all the tests I have done in my life, and costs I just do not see my way in going through all this again. could this symptoms be menopouse related, high blood pressure, should i rather go and see a normal GP first??

good day Sara

I cancelled my appointment with the neurologist this morning. I am seeing my GP first, then he can recommend an excellent neurologist in Pretoria.
My husband is not happy that i cancelled, he is scared, because we do not know what could be wrong. the wobbly legs and exstreme electric shock pain through my legs is reason to worry, not to speak of the sudden slurry speach, like a drunk person.
tests I had was about 20 odd years ago eeg/MR scans/ blood tests/  intensive ear tests, not 1 eeg or MR scan test reveals any abnormalities in my brain which would normally show signs of epilepsy..The tests is costly, and I have to tell my story overover again, and no one can find out  is wrong.
The exstreme dizzyness was always there since I was about 10 years old.  I think my parents did everything they could think of to try and solve the reason for this, but to no avail. the last neurologist had me on Epilim and azor ,5mg to see if this would help, since Dr Bierman at the Unitas hospital could not find a pattern. the epilim I used for a few years, and then stopped using it, which was about 20 years ago. the azor is the problem, I can not cope without it. by 9 am I feel shaky, and can not concentrate. 1st thing in the morning is 3 tablets azor .5mg each and 1 eltroxin for my underactive "skildklier" which Ihave for about 2 years now.
the wobbly legs , slurr speach and pain in legs started about a year ago.
but the last one was on the 17th of July 2012.
there is just no pattern, it is a thing that start so suddrnly, unbelievable, and then lights out for me, I have to sleep it of for a few hours, lying down does not help. as soos as i wake up, I feel better.
I am 51, till around 2010 I weighed 52 kg, blond and sexy. I lost my job, my marriage went bad, although still in the marriage, my "skildklier" packed up, I became fat, weighing about 75 kg at the moment, coloured my hair dark, and do not care about myself anymore. I am a follower of GOD, and suddenly my lovely world crumbled. I work as a temp at a mine at the moment due to a friend that helped me. I am trying to pick up the pieces of my life, and now also this condition, which I do not know the course off. I rather have 10 migraines all at once, than this dizzyness, leg numbness, pain in legs, slurr speach, it feels as if i am having a stroke at this time.
I told my husband that if this happen again, take me to the hospital, while in this state in order for them to try and find the course.
sorry for my lenghty email.

You don't say what all your tests have been or when you had them.  But if I was experiencing the serious disabilities that you're talking about, I would be beating a path to a doctor's door ASAP.  At 51, if you've seen 3 neurologists in your lifetime, it doesn't sound like a lot considering all that is wrong with you.  Your husband must be scared to death and no wonder he wants you to see another neurologist.  It sounds like you might be afraid of what they'll find the reason why you're hedging so much.  Don't wait, because the longer you wait, the worse the consequences could be.

good day

Thanks for your feedback.
I really do not want to go through all the tests again. very time consuming and costly.
I think I will do as you suggest, go to my GP first and then find out from him what to do next.
does this symptoms sound like Epilepsy to you. the exstreme dizzyness which I have to sleep off, lying down for a few minutes does not help, the dizzyness start slowly and in 5 minutes or less I can not stand on my legs as they become so weak and just give way under me, and I get these strange electric shock pains running trough both my legs up to my buttocks, my speach become so slurry, it really feels like a stroke. my husband has to get me to a bed within seconds, if not and i fall to the ground, he can not pick me up, as i am dead weight.  the dizzyness I had since I was a child, but the "jelly" legs and the terrible skock wave pains is new.
I will keep you posted, believe me, no one ever could figure out what was wrong with me. i spoke to many people, and no one ever had such severe dizzyness that they had to sleep it off, and influenced there life. no sports, no flashing lights, but the azor seems to help?

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi,
how are you? To determine the cause of these symptoms, diagnostic tests may need to be done. I agree that the symptoms could be caused by a variety of issues. Going to your attending physician first may help identify the main issue and not going through the same course as you had in the past. However, with regards to possible neurological issues as cause, evaluation by a neurologist may also be needed. Complicated migraines or other migraine variants can be accompanied by neurological dysfunction. In particular, hemiplegic migraine can present with paralysis or weakness of one side of the body and it can mimic stroke. At this point, whether you decide that it is a GP or a specialist, it is important that you have  your symptoms evaluated. Take care and do keep us posted.
