neck & back of head pain

started with severe neck pain that radiated to back of head on left side. Had therapy and made worse. Neck and back of head now hurts when I turn it right or left or  up or down. Back of head hurts at base of scull all the way accross back of head with slightest movement. sometimes when pain is worse, the lower part of head(at base of scull) seems swolen all accross the back of head. The swollen area hurts slightly when pressed on. Has been going on several months.

I'm having the exact same symptoms! Nothing helps I have taken a soma a xanax and a BC powder and its still hurting bad enough that I can't sleep. So its not stress or muscle stiffness or spasms (have tried flexiri too) Only history of neck injury was in Nov of 09 it didn't start hurting till this january and seriously hasn't stopped. My friend gave a 7.5 lortab and no relief! I'm going crazy!!! Any help would be appreciated

Hi,

Thanks for writing in.
Your headache seems to be related to neck issues. Pain and swelling in the neck seem to suggest neck injury which may have occurred due to manipulation.
I would suggest you to take rest please do not bend your neck too much, apply ice packs to the neck and affected part of head, you can also take OTC antiinflamatories for pain.
In the meantime please schedule an appointment with your family doctor and undergo a CT scan or X ray of neck and head.
Hope this helps!
