new drug for migrain

I was just prescribed the drug for frequent migrains and was wondering why and how it causes weight loss? Does it decrease your ap?

I started taking Topamax a week ago tomorrow, I can tell you as strange as it may sound the only side effects I have had so far would be the tiredness, and that is not even that bad just over sleep a little in the AM. I have also lost the taste for my beloved diet coke. Other then that I have not really seen anything major going on. I am on 25mg to start and will go up to 50 mg starting next Friday. I am curious what will happen then but good luck to you. Seems to be helping with the daily headaches and Migraine spikes though

  Hi...this is not really all that new, and it is the generic of TOPAMAX...this can take 2 weeks to adjust to....so u may feel extremely tired and off balance with this....

I did lose weight, and not sure how it works, but I gained it all back and I am still on the med....so it is not a weight loss miracle.

I have noticed a change in taste as well as smells...so I know that did affect what I eat....

  Good luck and again be advised most do need an adjustment period to this med.
