Midwives

Has anyone used a midwife, rather than an OB?  I am wondering if maybe they have a more compassionate manner than an OB. How does it work with a midwife?  With 2 m/c would that even be an option?  Just some questions thrown out there...fishing for info.  Thanks!

I use a midwife and she is great. I experienced 2 miscarriages and had a midwife through it all. She said I could get testing done if I wanted to and would recommend someone I could go for the testing, but I decided not to. They were both unexplained and no reason why I miscarried other than God had his reasons. I stuck it out with the midwife and I finally had my first baby in April of last year. A midwife to me is just more personal and let's you decide (within reason of course) what you would like to do during labor and the birthing process. She is like a friend to me and I really trust her. Some states don't recognize midwives or they are just hard to find. My friend in VA can't find a midwife in her area and would like a homebirth this time around, so she is going to TN where her mother lives since there is a midwife there who would be willing to assit her. I am not brave enough for a homebirth, neither is my husband. So we use a birthing center. I feel as though it's a very private and relaxed atmosphere and if something were to go wrong, the hosptial is just 15 min. from there. You have to find someone you are comfortable with and can trust. Good luck!!

I had a midwife with my second. While on vacation I went into preterm labor and had to see the OB for a while after that. The midwife went on to deliver my son a few months later. She was really easy going and way easier to talk to than an OB. I guess it just seemed like she didn't go 100% by the book. She let me play a bigger role in decisions and stuff. I found a dr. that I really like now, so I am going to continue with him. If I didn't find this dr. I would consider going back to a midwife again as an option. I hope this helped a little bit.

I haven't either, My OB is great and everyone told me he is like a midwife..I agree, he also had a nurse practitioner with him who is great.  But I have worked with midwives and they do take a more natiral approach and are very personalbe with their patients.  I believe you can't go wrong with one.

No butI have known a few people who used a midwife and had a more personal and natural birth. They also had a very normal pg. If I didn't have so many complications with my pg's and deliveries I would choose a midwfe but with me you never know and I need to be in a hospital. As far as 2 m/cs I have had 6 and my previous dr swore up and down there is not correlation between my reoccuring m/cs and my complicatios with my pg's. Did you have any complications during your pg or delivery with you daughter? Also some hospitals have midwives in them. Good luck I hope someone on here has.
