No heart beat

My daughter went in for an early u/s. her estimated date gestation was 9 weeks based on last period. She was on the pill at time of conception. At the early U/S it said 7 weeks with no heart beat. The yoke had started to absorb. She decided to go a head with the D+C but now after a little research I'm wondering if the doc was right in recommending it. As her mom I want it done ASAP to make sure she is 100% safe as the grand ma I wounded if she should wait? If we wait and there's still no heart beat it would devastate her and I wouldn't want that but if we waited and there was. Any advice with actual references would be great. I love the  the personal stories but I have to look at what is the best for her emotionally and physically for her. She is 19 and will make the decision but she gets my opinion and when she talks about it I want to have reasons and facts to show my opinion and the opposite of my opinion.

i have just gone through something  similar, i went for my first ultrasound, i should have been 11 weeks 3 days but the scan showed the baby was measuring 8 weeks and 4 days, there was no heartbeat or movement, they told me the baby had stopped developing.

i saw the dr and she went through our options, this was a thursday and we decided to have a d&c on the following monday, we wanted the weekend to absorb all the information, unfortunately one the friday night i satred miscarrying naturally, i went to the er as the pain was very bad and they preformed the d&c.

because of the d&c they were able to take some of the tissue and do genetic testing, i got the results and it showed my baby had downs syndrome. this helped me alot with my grief, i was able to put a reason to the miscarriage, and it made me feel better, for want of a better word.

as ur daughters pregnancy is still very early, i would recommend a second scan, i believe the heartbeat doesnt show up on ultrasound untill the 8th week? and dr have been known to make mistakes.

if it is the case that the pregnancy isnt viable, as the dr's about genetic testing after the d&c. when they first offered me the choice i didnt think i would make a difference to how we were feeling, but seeing the results defiantly helped us

I'm not really familiar with what they say with miscarriages and d&c's so I'm not sure about the bleeding out part. :(
I hope all turns out for your daughter and if it indeed does need to happen that she heals quick and just let her know that early miscarriages are quite common. That's what helped me with mine.

There was no heartbeat with me either. Dr had me wait a week. I ended up having to do the D&C. The dr said he knew there wouldn't be any heartbeat. He said the week was really to let me dwn gently and give me a little time to accept what had happened and prepare myself.

There would be no harm in a second ultrasound/ second opinion. I have seen many stories on here where women wait and baby is fine. There are also stories where the baby is just not going to make it.
She could always have the option of waiting it out to see if her body will miscarry on it's own. Maybe she can wait it out a couple weeks....go back and get another ultrasound before moving on to a D&C?
