Urogyny appointment - yesterday

So it was Okish.

He felt that my problerm at night was caused by spasms.

During the day he felt it was stress incontinence. He said my pelvic floor strength bairly scored a 1 when asked to tighten the muscles on examination. I found I could hardly do this while he examined me yet at home or even sat fully dressed I can, I don't really understand that.

He is arranging for urodynamics testing in the next couple of weeks.Due to Neuro symptoms he wants this done before he puts me on any medication.( I'm really not sure I can do this) He feels that I probable need some electrically assisted physio (I know I can't do thsi).

He suggested that I should lower my caffine intake (I am now on decaff tea) He also pointed out that being over weight is a big issue for stress incontinence but did not suggest I should try and lose weight. Just reduce my fluid intake towards the end of the day,

He did not meantion cycstocele or recotcele which I can see and feel so I was a bit confused at this. He did meantion that surgery was a possiblity put to put it in the back ground for now.

He was very pleasant but I found myself very over sensitive about the whole thing, and not sure I can make the way forward although I know I must try, I just don't want to turn up for these tests and freeze and waste everyones time.

I've also heard that if you have to have surgery for weak pelvic floor muscles, that many times it's unsuccessful (stress incontinence). So, I'm not sure that I would go down that route. It's good that it's only in the background for you for now.

I hope it all works out for you. I had the urodynamics/cystoscopy testing done about a year or so ago.  I do remember thinking the same thing as you - wondering if I could go through with it. I was so nervous & afraid.

It turned out to be not that scary, actually.  For me, they took a long Q-tip with numbing medicine on it, and let it sit "in there" for a little bit before using the cystoscope.  Make sure to drink LOTS of water afterwards, or it will probably burn when you have to use the restroom the next few times.  (Although, I'm not sure if that was related to the catheter or the cystoscope).

Good luck,
Kelly
