Burning sensation and other probs?

Hi Guys,
I am having chronic burning in my privates at the moment and other places but the privates bothers me the most.  Sometimes I feel like I have done the splits and sat my bits on a hot BBQ and this is the burn afterwards...lol mind you it would be a miracle if I did the splits in the first place.

My Neuro has tripled my gabapentin 1800mg a day and I seem to be getting used to it now, not so MOOSH BRAIN, but I am not really getting a lot of relief, has helped a bit.

My stomach and butt and down through my legs and my back is burning.. my left arm feels a lot weaker at the moment and so does my left leg, it feels like jello or something, but normally my leg feels heavy and weird like it's gone to sleep....burning is mostly in my pubic region more down in the perineum area and then the groin.  It is an unpleasant sensation in a very unpleasant place that is meant to be a pleasant place!  LoL.

I am starting to feel miserable with all this and I believe I am in another flare!

QUESTIONS:

How long before the Gabapentin should kick in?

What's the max dose of Gabapentin?  Maybe I should ask for even more...

Does anyone else get burning?  I have been told it is common with TM. If they do how do they manage it.

I still wonder if  I have a bladder infection even tho the Drs have said not and I also wonder if it could be some form of migraine aura?

Cheers, and thanks in anticipation of some replies..
Udkas

I can relate.  I have this exact same problem
The first time I experienced this was 23 years ago when I was pregnant with my first child.  I told my ObGyn and she said it was problably the baby putting pressure on the vaginal area.

Fast forward after the baby.  I thought well maybe my jeans are too tight and I am putting that area to sleep.  it would come and go.  I can remember pulling at my jeans to no avail.

23 yrs later I still get it.  It has to be neuropathic pain because I am not PG and I don't wear tight pants.

I have basically learned to live with it.

That wasn't much help but I wanted to say you are not alone.  terry

Hi and thanks for the replies and yep I am miserable.  I want some relief and I feel confused about what it really is but I guess now it is neurological...

In answer to you question Lulu they did do a culture and it grow nothing so that is when they decided it was neurological, I say they because I went for a second opinion on it and the 3rd if you count my neuro but I only phoned his nurse as he is located 3 hours drive away from me.

I then asked my friend who works at the pathology lab as to why I could have protien, blood and leuckocytes in my urine on more than one occasion and not have an infection and she said that perhaps I just had an irritation? I know that even if I do have some kind of infection it is either setting off my neuro probs or part and part if that makes sense, it now all feels neurological based...I am having burning sensations in my back and arm weakness etc.. but I guess if I had an infection this would set it off too.,

Karen I have had the antidepressant that you talk about before when I had trigimal neuralgia but was unable to tolerate the two together, it seemed to dope me to the eyeballs, I was also made take it in hospital when I had the drip with the predinisilone for bladder probs.. amitryptaline.. prob spelt it wrong... was ok for that but when I mixed it with the tegretol i was off my tree and I imagine it would increase the effects of gabapentin and then I wouldn't be able to work and I need the money...mmm

Yep I am miserable, which is not like me, but the no relief of pain is getting to me, I kinda would like to see my neuro but don't either (prob doesn't make sense)...

Thanks Goofy's Mum, I might see about increasing the dose again.. will see how I go in the next day or two as I am going on a business trip and I really can't afford to be doped up to the eyeballs sitting in meetings etc.

Thanks Guys,
I really needed to vent.. with some people who understand..

When I had this sort of awful burning pain I was give Elavil.  The generic name is Amitriptyline.  It was a godsend.

The burning pain got so bad I could not sleep for 3 or 4 days and I thought I would go nuts.   My skin was so sensitive that I could not wear clothing in that area.  Anything that touched that area, even a wisp of hair sent me through the roof.

If the gabapentin is not giving you substantial relief, you might consider Elavil.  It is an old antidepressant that was found to give relief in this type of pain.  The dosage is different, much lower, than when used for depression.  It works by altering the interpretation of the the message of pain.

Have you been to the urologist yet?  Hmmmm?   You might find one that can help you a lot.

You might try some IcyHot, Zostrix, or capasaic acid on other areas than the perineum areas.  I know it sounds weird, but it WORKS!  Again it interferes on how the brain interprets pain.

You sound absolutely miserable.

I am sorry that you are experiencing this - it doesn't sound fun at all.  I think the maximum dose of gabapentin is 4800 mgs?  But, you will definitely want to talk to your doctor about increasing it slowly.

I get the burning sensation - not in the places you describe, but in my left arm.  I have also had burning on my ear, and my left big toe.  The burning on my left arm has been so bad at times, that I have felt the need to touch my skin to see if it is hot to the touch (which it isn't).  Very weird.

I hope you get some relief soon!

Sorry but I have no experience with gabapentin.  Did they also culture your urine sample - not just dip sticking it for results?  The dip stick for me rarely shows infection, but the lab culture always does.

I hope someone here has an answer for you - it sounds miserable.  I am getting just ocassional zaps of electricity down there and I know what you mean - it is not fun being hooked up to an electric cattle prod.

feel better,
Lulu
