Is it possible?

That in the morning I will wake and find out this MS thing has all been just a long nightmare?  If so, somebody nudge me and wake me up now.

I think the reason we're all so horrified is that we know how close we are to your situation.  I suppose you could always move to another state that has Section 8 available, but then your family and friends wouldn't be there.  Take care - we're thinking about you!

We have good friends and our families are not so bad.  We will not be on the streets.  I hope I have not made it seem that way.

Our financial resources from when I was working are exhausted, but we have SS Disability and I get Medicare now.  SS Disability does not pay enough to do everything we want, but it covers enough to get by.  Our friends are generous and very helpful.  We will be fine.

Loosing our house is one of those things that S.U.C.K.S but, we will get by.

I think we discussed this before, but if not....

Please contact your local NMSS chapter and ask to be connected with a social worker.  They know the ins and outs of the system and may be able to help you move higher up the list.

This whole thing about housing repossessions really ***** in this country - a close family member just had her house repossessed, despite making all the payments for the past 5 years.  All the headlines about malfeasance appear to be pretty true.    BTW, she is a professional, has no credit cards to accumulate debt (intentionally to stay out of financial trouble) and this still happened.

Good luck in trying to work through the system.

This is about Section 8 Housing in Ann Arbor, MI

" Our jurisdiction includes Washtenaw, Western Wayne and Monroe counties. Out of the 1333 Housing Choice Vouchers, 100 vouchers are reserved specifically for families where the head of household has a disability"

http://www.a2gov.org/services/OtherServices/Housing/Pages/Section8.aspx

Hope this helps.

Section 8 is closed in your state?  Where do you live?

Section 8 housing has been closed for over 2 years.

People stood in a line with a couple thousand people in it to get an application to be on the waiting list in case it section 8 reopened.

We will be fine.  I do not know what the details will be once we are out of our house, but we will be fine even though I am sure whatever we come up with will not be to our liking.

Yeah, it keeps getting worse, doesn't it?  I live in Texas, and without our health benefits, we would be in serious trouble.  There's no funding by the state for assistance, and of course the pre-existing condition problem is still in place until 2014.  I have all the bells and whistles I can afford - fortunately LTD isn't that expensive with my plan.  Can't afford the HMO, but the PPO is within reach.  If I lose my job, well, then I'm s c r e w e d...

At least you have disability.  Have you investigated Section 8 housing?

Wouldn't it be great if there were some MS version of A Christmas Carol?  It feels that way sometimes to me - MS past, present and future ghosts all with a message.  Wait, those aren't rattling chains, those are my creaky bones!!!

I'm so sorry that this recurrent nightmare is reality and not just a dream for you.

I had a job with benefits.  First lost private disability insurance due to the economy, then my job with health benefits.

There are a lot of people in this situation.  I used to help a number of people stay off the streets.  When I lost my situation they lost whatever help I could give them.

You would be surprised at how many people who live in colder climates spend their nights walking around casinos.  They are not there in order to gamble;  they are there because it is warm.  They can stay in the casino as long as they are either walking or siting at a table gambling.  As soon as their money is gone they have to either keep walking or leave.

I now collect disability, we are fortunate in this regard.

I'm sorry you're having to go through all this.  I shudder to think what would happen to me and my hubby if I didn't have a job with insurance.

I remember being really tired and sleeping on the couch and my wife at the door talking with Sarah.  That is when I am told in this nightmare I was having a bout of ON.

So, I know when I wake I will have the eyesight in my left eye back, I will still have job and our house will ours still and we will not be looking for somewhere to live.
