strange thing that happens at night

This is off topic, but this strange thing happens to me at night often.  I will semi-wake up and feel like the bed is shaking. Or that something is trembling.  I used to think I was imagining it, but it happens so often that I wonder if I am not trembling or shaking in my sleep?  Has this ever happened to anyone?

I haven't even thought to mention it to my doc, but I think I will next week when I go.

Thanks and happy September 1st!!!!

Hey MJ,

I've woken up a few times feeling like we are having a mini earth tremor, but it always turns out to be me. I am often going to sleep with the tremor running at a rate that makes me hug myself to try and reduce the impact, doesnt really work but everyone needs a hug sometimes to it at least feels nicer than just laying there shaking.

Long before i was tremoring all the time, i would get up in the night and feel like i was shaking, i was always half asleep and had been told I was hypoglycemic so it was put down to a drop in blood sugar. Hypoglycemic was wrong!

I am not sure why but in the waking up stage of sleep, i feel the tremor running through me like a roller coaster train. I am not always visibly shaking but the sensation is there building in momentum until it eventually settles and i can get up. It is possible that on the days where I am woken by the movement it is just the tremor waking up before i am.

Just letting you know that someone else has been woken with the earth moving and unfortunately not in a good way!

Cheers..............JJ

Maybe it's a paresthesia?  I often have sensations of vibration or buzzing in my hips, knees and feet.

I am never awake enough to figure it out.  I tried the other night to wake myself up enough to determine what exactly was happening, but by the time I was fully awake it seemed to have stopped.  The other odd thing is it always seems to happen around the same time.  Usually around 11:30 at night.  I thought for a while maybe I was having some kind of paranormal experience!!!

Very strange indeed!  I hope my doctor doesn't make me feel silly when I tell him!

@Mary - that is funny about thinking your kids were shaking your house.  Hah!

@Paula - I never even thought tremors.  I have never had tremors while being awake but maybe they do happen when I am sleeping.

That happened to me this morning when I went back to bed after several hours of insomnia.  I came to partial consciousness and assumed it must have been some especially heavy vehicle going down the street.  A few seconds is all it lasted.

There was also a time years ago that I yelled at the kids for jumping on the bed because they were "shaking the whole house".  I heard on the news that night that our town had experienced a mild earthquake at the same time.  I knew the house shook.  I didn't think those kids could crack the earth with their bed gymnastics!

I was sure both of these times that the shaking was a result of something happening from outside my body.  Are you awake enough to know if what you feel is from the outside-in or the inside-out?

You could be having tremors at night while you are sleeping. They can get pretty annoying especially when they are disturbing your sleep. I don't have tremors when I sleep or if I do I don't notice them. I have been told that my leg jumps alot when I sleep. Do tell your doc about it next time you see him.

Hugs,
Paula
