Life is Ironig, tales from social security...

I was listening to NPR the other morning, and they were talking about SS disability and the trouble people are facing trying to apply.

My ears perked up, when I heard the slowest and hardest State for people to get SSD is OH.  Of course, OH, where I applied , which was a very sad day for me, about 1 month ago.

The second thing they said was they were sending in some type of investigator to a randomly chosen branch in OH.  So, ironic you ask??  The chose Akron, OH, where is EXACTLY where I went to apply.

Don't know if that is a good thing or not, but is basically said the average time frame to get SSD in Ohio was 500 days.  So, that is a pretty long time, huh?!  Just seems like a weird thing for me to hear when it is so relevant to me.

That's it, more tales and woe from Ohio.

Wow - I guess I am even more fortunate than I realized.  I am in Ohio, too ... I applied for SS disability in August 2009, and was approved just before Christmas the same year - it was a total of about 4 1/2 months.  It was my first application and I did not use an attorney.

I am right there with you, well Ohio that is just down south in Cincinnati. I applied for SSDI in July and I just went to their psychologist in Cincinnati and he told me that I have cognitive issues and that he will get his report into SSDI within a week but who knows how long it will be for me to hear from them again.

My sisters friend has scleroderma and it took here 2 years (Ohio) to get approved so I know I am not holding my breath until I hear from them, especially after what you just heard.

But I am with Lulu and Red on this one, maybe it will help get things going faster, for those of us who apply for SSDI. Apparently the government realizes that Ohio is being stubborn since we are the slowest state and the hardest state to get approved.

Take Care,
Paula

Ohio at the top of another list?  It just continues to be bad for our state.  I'm with Red, this might help to get things moving for you a bit faster.

My question is how do people who only have one person with income make it while they wait for an SSDI ruling?  It makes me sad to think we don't/won't do better in this country to take care of all members of society.

hugs, L

Michelle this sounds like a very good thing.  The good part is that administration knows there is a problem and are going to do something about it.  It will take time and that doesn't help you. Someone or a group of people are purposely refusing and probably not even gathering the information they need.

The people that were wrongfully turned down will get a bit fat check when they  are approved.

It is a very strange situation.
