Hi Rosie, i've had this type of thing happening on and off over the years, my jaw gap is now quite small, the lower jaw is receding more and more, as time moves on. It does seem to have spurts where it can be difficult as well as painful to open wide enough to take a bite of something, and even when i do get food in, the chewing is too exhausting to get through a meal.

I've found that during these times, i need to eat stews, soups, pasta, mashed potatoe/pumpkin etc any healthy foods that do not require a bite and or minimal chewing. I also make sure to drink milkshakes or fresh juices to get additional vitamins etc that i'm missing out on by my limited food choices.

This site has a few hints and tricks, over the counter medications etc that might be of some help.

Hi, rosie. I am not diagnosed, my very first neuro appointment is in the morning. Just wanted to let you know I have the same symptoms with my jaw (just on the right side) with face pain and "phantom tooth pain." It hurts to even eat. Hopefully someone will come along with better advice. I wanted you to know you aren't alone.

Hugs,

Minnie
