OT New medication for Cancer

I am one of the first cancer patients to be on a PARP inhibitor. It is the first one the FDA has approved. It is called Lynparza or olaparib. You have to have metastic ovarian cancer, three different rounds of chemotherapy and have the BRCA 1 mutation.

I am thinking it might help my MS as well. There is a very small group it is okayed for. It might cause a deadly Leukemia. It has a 30% chance of working. I have to take 8 large pills in the morning and 8 at night. There were only 137 in the study so I am a real guinea pig.  I was supposed to go on the study but the FDA just approved it.I am strangely optimistic. I hope what I do now might help cancer patients later. I hope in a few years every cancer will have PARP inhibitors to go directly to the cancer instead of chemo therapy that kill good and bad cells.

I am feeling happy these days. I had to have two pints of blood yesterday from my last chemo agent. In a few moths I will reach the three year mark. Statistics said two years tops. People are not statistics. Each person is different with every illness.

I am not in a study. I will be on the drug. I was supposed to be in a study but the FDA approved the drug. I get it mailed to me next week. The side effects accept hair loss are the same as chemo.

There is only one place in the country to get the medication. If you think getting MS drugs is hard picture going through a pharmacy where you are one of the first clients. They are literally making it up as they go along. Accredo and Shared Solutions looks better and better.

Thanks all.

Alex, I echo the sentiments that you are a very strong woman. Selfless too, in thinking about this not only helping you but others after being a guinea pig in this study.

My best wishes are with you in everything.

Hey Alex, I'm sorry you meet the criteria for this trial, but glad at the same time, as it could well be a win for you.

The new generation of targeted cancer chemo is very promising. I hope it also means less harsh side effects from the treatment.

As always I'm in your corner. Let us know how it goes.

hugs,
ess

The study disbanded. No more chemo for now just the PARP. It is approved by the FDA for a very small group of cancer patients.

Before the current MS drugs they used Cancer drugs. The last experimental drug I was on pushed back the MS as does my chemo.

Hi, Alex.

You've really been through the mill.  You're one tough woman, very brave and strong.

I got confused (shocker there).  Did the study disban because the  FDA approved the Lynparza?  Are you still going to have chemo?   Lastly, what about this drug makes it maybe helpful for MS?

Whatever,  I am wholeheartedly rooting for you and the other 136.

Blessings to you all,
  Melinda
