One more post from me today regarding SS.

I applied for Social Security Disability in October.  A very sad day for me, but I am ok with it. Particularly lately with my double vision and that I haven't been able to be a reliable employee for quite some time.  I have been at my job for over 6 years, so they know me, and I am always welcome to work any time I want to.  I am very lucky.

Anyway, apparently it can take 2 years to even know ANY outcome, at least here in OH.

I did receive a letter recently that said an Appt. was set of for me this morning with a psychologist, that the state pays for.  I will be receiving many other letters about future doc appts as well.

Just curious, has anyone had to do this?  I am a bit nervous what the questions will be.  Feel like I am going to be "judged".  I am curious as to what will be involved here.

Any thoughts,
Michelle

I take it as promisiing that you already have some sort of letter - it has only been a  bit over 3 months.  LOL

take a deep breath - you can do this process and it will be ok.

We do know from previous threads here that Ohio is one of the states being watched due to poor performance.  It may work in your favor.  Hoping it is true!!!

Michelle, my late wife went through it (here in Ohio) in 2005/2006, and it was really pretty basic stuff.  She submitted all her stuff online, and SS sent her to a psychiatrist (whose office was since raided by Medicaid, I think), to an elderly GP (who was more interested in my hat than her health), and to a clinic for an x-ray (of the wrong limb).  Hers was one of the 1-in-3 that was approved on the first run-through.

Michelle,

My Pysch exam was pretty straight forward.  He asked about how many kids I had, ages, etc. How much alcohol or recreational drugs I consumed. Meds I take, did I feel depressed about my illness.

DH went with me as my letter advised. They asked him 2 questions. Was I depressed and if so, did I take meds for it,

Actually, no judging at all. I felt the same way going in as you do but it was no big deal. BTW, depression alone can be a reason to award disability in some states.

Good luck,
Ren
