About seven years ago, a great friend of mine became a coordinator for the MS Society. She organized walks, etc. She stayed with me a couple of times when her walks were in my part of the state.
I marveled then, even more NOW, at how organized, accessible and informative the MS Society is. Kudos to them.
Welcome to the club that no one wants to belong to.
Sometimes acknowledging it helps your frame of mind.
It is always fun to participate in a walk. I've always been the one to help with registration and pass out bags and shirts to the participants as I cannot walk very far.
Its people with enthusiasm like you who help raise funds for our much needed research!
Kyle, nice pictures! Love the T-shirts! Congrats on raising money and having the chance to be recognized for it! I am only up to $100 right now, but have 28 days to go. My hope is to at least met the individual goal they recommended for the walk which is $350 and hopefully surpass it.
Thanks for sharing your adventure with me!
Aw man...I just love this site!!!
Everyone is so freakin' amazing!!!!
Hiya Sonia - Sorry That you've joined us :-)
I had a very similar reaction to my diagnosis last September. I immediately started to focus on the local Walks MS. I have no idea why, maybe after years of walking in events to support others, I finally had an event of my own? :-)
I walked with my girlfriend and her daughter and we raised a pant load of money. We ended up at #14 on the list and I got my prize last night! I've posted a few pics of our adventure here.

I think it's great that you have decided to take some ownership of your MS and to do whatever you can to help yourself and others :-)
Kyle
Thanks everyone for the positive reinforcement! I cannot wait for the walk! Will take pictures to share...
TOM!!!! You are here! YAY!!! I am so glad!!!! How fun! We can all walk together!!! I just friended you. Thanks so much for getting a profile on here. You are going to love this site.
Sonia,
Jaime and I will totally have to come to the MS walk. Jaime just told me you gave her a link to the information so we will have to sign up.
How did your first injection go? If it was anything like my first one, I'll bet you were scared out of your mind. I actually got sick just practicing on the stupid little ball the nurse brought.... I hate needles with a passion but everyday gets easier, I promise. Hang in there,
Tom
Congrats in investing in yours & our future! Thanks for walking.
I've been on 3 walks so far, but wasn't able to attend the one this year, which made me kind of sad. I've looked forward to it every year. I even walked when I had intially been diagnosed with transvers myelitis, when I knew it had to be MS before my MS diagnosis. Like an idiot, I thought my old neuro would be there and give me dirty looks because he said I didn't have MS.
Anyways, I'm glad you're doing something positive for yourself with this disease.
Take care,
Kelly
Yay! Me and my hubby walked in our local walk this year, too. It was awesome! It felt great to do something positive for our community. We are all in this together! Have a blast, Sonia!
Sonia, your post just reinforces the idea that once we get outside of our own immediate problems and act to help others, our mood shifts. Our local walk always makes me feel good - just seeing so many people rallying around my cause is uplifting.
I am so happy you have found a bright spot., Remember as you try to process this idea of living with the MonSter, you have to be kind to yourself and give yourself time to absorb this. It seems it takes about a year to grow into this new skin.
Good luck with the walk - I hope the weather and the company are both pleasant.
