SPMS treatments?

I have SSMS on Amantidine, Baclofen, Tizanadine, Sativex and Ibuprofen. I've had SPMS for 9 years. The past year has been bad - spending more time in bed as spasms are so bad and I feel uneasy in the wheelchair now. Does anyone know of any possible treatments to help manade this?

Hello, Matheson.  Welcome to our forum.  :)

I am sorry that you are experiencing pain and for your SPMS dx.  I don't have any advice for you in terms of your SPMS as I have very little knowledge about it.  I am sure others on here will be able to relate to it and will comment soon.

As far as the spasms, well I can relate to those.  :(

I, too, am on Baclofen.  I am sure you know, that is mainly for spasticity.  When I first started having spasms I was put on muscle relaxers.  These have helped some but not enough.  I have tried vicodin and that doesn't touch it.  I have since started seeing a pain management doc.  Maybe you should consider this yourself.  No one has to live in pain.  Not me and not you.

I had an LP done on Tuesday.  Since then I have been having some pretty strong muscle spasms in my back (I also get them in legs and chest).  Tuesday evening I was taken by ambulance to the hospital due to the spasms.  They were making it difficult to move in any way and also hard to breathe.  I was given morphine.  While I definitely do not want to be on this strong a drug, I will say that it sure helped me Tuesday night.

I have been down in the bed since then, too.  The spasms are still in my back but not as strong.

I don't know what a couple of the drugs you are on are.  So maybe one is already a muscle relaxer?   If not, that might be an option for you.  Or maybe trying a TENS unit?   Or physical therapy?   A heating pain helps me a little bit.

Anyways, i would definitely encourage you to go see your doc about something to help you through this.  You shouldn't have to live through this symptom.

Hugs,
Addi

Hi Matheson and welcome to this wonderful community.  I am so sorry to hear that your SPMS is giving you such fits.  I don't personally have suggestions but I hope that someone else here will have some ideas.

I know shadowsister (DJ) has major spasms and got some relief by using celebrex but the side effects of that drug were too harsh for her.   I understand what you are saying about the spasms from my relationship with her - she has had them so bad that she has fractured ribs and vertebrae.

Wish I had more to offer to you.  Lulu
