Somethig new -- well sort of

I have ha lots of vertigo problems in the past, but this is something I have not experienced before.

I first noticed something different last night when I went to bed. As I laid in my bed I started feeling like I was falling, which was rediculus. But I kind of figured it was just because I was so tired. But today as I was sitting in front of my computer flying an airplane ( love flight simulators) things started spining and I felt like I was going to fall. I slowly made my way to my bedroom and laid down and took a 3 hour nap. When I got up the virtigo started in again, but has been more of the usual type I get only when standing. I'm not sure if this is the start of a flare up of my Sx or side effect of medication.

My Neuro had changed my Rx for Gapapetin from 300mg as needed to 100mg 3x a day.She changed the Rx after seeing how bad my tremor was when she had me lift a soda like I was going to take a drink.  I had started on it yesterday at only 100mg per day figuring I would work up to a level that would help my termors without giving me too bad of side effects.

Before I would take the Gabapetin only when I was going out to eat. I would take iy just before I left and by the time I got to the restaurant and my food arrived the med would have taken effect so that I could eat without having to bend down to my plate in order to get food into my mouth.

The first day of taking the Gabapetin was pretty good and the tremors were not very bad, could just barely detect any while eating normaly at home for the first time in ages. But today was a different story with the vertigo as bad as it was. Wondering if I should stop the Gabapetin for a while to see if it is the medication or a flare.

Well it has been a mixed bag today and has me thinking this is a new flare of my Sx.

Last night while getting ready for bed I noticed a slight tremor in my right leg when I had weight on it. I've had vibration like feeling in that leg before but never a visable tremor. I also didn't take my Gaba with my morning meds.

I have noticed that my right hand tremor is worse so far this morning and the right leg tremor is still there. But no vertigo so far ( Knock on wood). I did take my Gaba a little while ago to see if the vertigo starts up agian.

As for the flight simulator I seriously doubt that cause the vertigo as after I laid down for a while yesterday I did do some more flying without getting the Vertigo like earlier. I have also flown today for a while with again no problem. I fly almost everyday ( can't always do it correctly) as a way of checking my reflexs in a safe environment. I would rather crash in the simulator than in real life. Usually it is just a take off and landing that I do.

If I get the vertigo later today like yesterday I would think that it is the medications, but right now with the addition of leg tremor it is looking more like a new flare.

Hi Dennis,

It could well be a combination of the meds that you are taking AND doing a flight simulator too.

I know that flight simulators can make you dizzy, so maybe it’s a combination of both?

Uh! Did I just repeat myself here:))

Sorry about the loss of your Mother, believe me I know it’s hard:/

Sleep well tonight,

I am also on low dose ( due to high sensitivity to drugs) I take 1/2 of 25mg @ bedtime otherwise I am a zombie the next day. As it is I end up needing to take a nap everyday. I have been on it about 3 weeks.

I think I have just figured out why I have been waking up during the night every night since I have been on the Amitriptyline. It is dreams! I had gone to bed already tonight and just woke up from a dream.

In the dream my house was pretty dark due to an electrical problem that I was working on fixing. My brother came up behind me and taped me on the shoulder and scred the living daylights out of me. My heart was racing 900 miles per hour at least as he asked what I was doing. After I told him the problem he sadi let me take a look. As he was looking around the breakers he started to say that he had come over to talk to me about what our mom was going through lately which is when I woke up.

Since my mom just died a month ago ( today) I think I would classify this as a bad dream. Not sure if it has been the same dream or other dreams about when I was in the service, or even if it was dreams every time. But I think it is very likey that it has been dreams waking me every night. I must put this down in my jourla for the next time I see the shrink at the VA.

Well I think I'll try to get back to sleep now. Hope you have a nice restful sleep.

That flight simulator would have likely caused those sympotms for me.  I realize it's something you've done before without problem.  Maybe something made today different.

Thanks!

Just had a thought though. This is the first time I have taken the Gaba since I started on the Amitriptyline ( anti depressant). Since they both say they may cause drozsiness maybe together they are messing me up. I did check for drug interaction between them but there isn't suppose to be any. But with my super sesitivity to drugs maybe the combination of drozsiness is beinging combined to give me the vertigo.

Also which Neuro to call if things are the same? I have two of them ( Vanderbilt, and VA). :) that is the question of the day.

Hi there, Sorry you are having a not so good day....I too get sx just like you explained. It really feels scary.

Not so sure though this is from the Gaba.....SInce you were used to taking 300mg in one whopp.(even though it ws as needed).I would think that the 100mg would not do this.  I would not just stop this medication though as it should be tappered down daily befor a definite stop.... If you feel like this again tomorrow, it would be worth a call to your Neuro..I know it's the weekend but when you leave the message with the answering service..if he feeels like this is something that need immediate attention he will call you right back.

Dennis, It may just be "One of those Days"...and hopefully tomorrow will bring you a much brighter and better day....be careful when up walking around so you don't fall over.

Please let us know how you are feeling tomorrow.
Sleep Well my Friend,
~Tonya

I have this problem too and I don't take Gabapetin. That may very well be causing your problems but then again it could be something else.  My husband is taking Gabapetin and it sorta makes him feel that way too.  It's certainly something to bring up to your doctor the next time you go.  I wish you the best my friend...

I'll be praying,
Carol
