Jerking limbs before falling asleep?

Hi, again,

Just wondering if any of you have trouble falling asleep because of jerking limbs? This has been happening to me a lot recently. It's not the jolt that you get just as you fall asleep, in which you feel like you're falling. This happens in the resting state. My arm, leg, head, or abdomen will twitch. This can go on for hours. Is this something associated with MS or can it be anxiety over my symptoms causing this sleep issue? I haven't been diagnosed with MS but am trying to put the puzzle pieces together.

Thanks!

Thank you. It's very hard to tell from the internet what's normal and what's not. I'll let you know what the neuro says (I see one in May).

Thanks again,

Michele

Hi there,

What you are describing 'could be' whats commonly known as sleep starts, its a normal part of the sleep cycle, you are typically startled and woken out of sleep 'but' if you are experiencing this for 'hours' as a continued twitch/tremor/jerk and you are 'fully awake' prior then it 'could be' myoclonus and you should speak to your dr about this.

Cheers.......JJ

I have had problems with twitching before I go to sleep. I find that if I get up, get 100 mg. of vitamin B1, open the capsule and dump the contents in my mouth (to be absorbed there) it gets rid of the twitching and I can go to sleep. This might not work for you, but it is harmless and worth a try.
