Well, Bowling is out...

So, last night my husband, my daughter and I went to this bowling alley for a Hail and Farewell for my husband's unit. It was all the bowling and pizza you could do for 3 hrs. I haven't bowled since before all of "this" began.
I have always loved it even tho I am not that good. When my husband got back from being in Iraq in 2005, we bought bowling balls and shoes and enjoyed bowling.
I was curious to see if I could still bowl. Well, it turns out, I need ALOT more balance to throw this 12 lb ball down the alley. I know I must have looked totally bizarre because I couldn't swing my foot behind me to steady myself. I was so impaired just walking up to the alley I only ended up throwing 3 balls before I bowed out. I think all the noise and activity just made everything worse...not to mention the fear of falling and people staring at me.
I just gotta say..I AM SO SICK OF THIS MS TAKING EVERYTHING AWAY FROM ME!!  Man, can't it just affect 1 or 2 things in my life instead of robbing me slowly of all the things I love??

One thing I forgot to mention is that my husband also has decided to give up the bowling due to his hip replacement and it is causing him major pain when he throws the ball. So I said to him, "Why do you have to copy me?"..We had a laugh inspite of the realization. I told him misery loves company, so I was secretly glad that he couldn't bowl...does that make me a bad person??? lol

I hope things are going ok for everyone today.

Ever tried Duck Pins? The little balls? I have done king pins an Army guy introduced me to duck pins. You have three balls instead of two because it is harder to get a strike.

I know how you feel about the bowling.  I use to bowl until I got blisters on my thumb ( take about 15 lanes). when in the Navy. And still enjoyed it a lot even after developing my balance problems. I eventually had to give it up myself because of problems with my knees.

For the last 2 years I have been again enjoying bowling when I got a WII for myself. And have gotten pretty good at it. Yesterday I bowled a 258, 225, and 213 which is the best I have ever done. It really can be very much like real bowling.

Have you tried using a Dremel tool for carving?  My hands are not strong enough to carve with a knife but I still make "music" with my Dremel!!!

I'm honestly sorry Kristi. giving up things we love to do hurts.

i gave up bowling two years ago. i wasn't smart enough to sit down and stop when i tired after a few frames. tend to be stubborn and think it is an asset most the time. i had to walk cautiously to the line to bowl. i fell twice and yes the ball went backwards once. still haven't lived it down. i use to bowl twice a week. i learned that night and gave it up.

now i'm having a harder time with my drawing and painting. wood carving can be a bit dangerous. but i keep trying them. no one to laugh and rib me about them. just my own head and it tends to growl.

I can still do many things and try to focus on them. yet, i miss getting out to the bowling ally and the fellowship.

I am sorry, Starryeyes.  Truly sorry.  It is hard giving up the things we love.  I still mourn my garden.  I sit on the porch looking out at the unkept things I treasured and nurtured.  Each time I want to cry.  The only thing that takes the sting away is asking myself if I could give the pain away who would I choose..my sons?  my husband? a friend? a neighbor?  That seems to "ground" me.  I would rather it be me than another.  (Actually I would rather it not be any of us...including me...lol)  But I have an idea of your bowling ball!  How nice they look in a garden tucked among flowers...Think about it!  I had a few here and there.  Think about it.  Your bowling ball LIVES!!!

Lol Bob-
I felt like I walked with a stick-you know where-..and stiff legged. I really like my bowling ball too..  :-(  Its a swirly red, white, blue, pink..its sparkly. I think I was a bird in my prior life...I'll miss knocking those pins down. I do have a Wii, so that will be my bowling!

I am really sorry you have had something you enjoy so much taken away.

Just wondered if you and hubby had ever tried Wii Bowling.  You can adjust the amount of movement you use according to your level.  Last year, before "this" started for me, I would try to do it with a really fluid movement.  However, my 16 year old son wouldn't even get off the couch and would throw strike after strike.

We get really competitive and it's fun for the whole family.  My 9 year old plays too.  If I'm not feeling great, I don't get up and do the whole line up and big sweep.  I just lob it and still do ok.

Might be fun. Just a thought. :)
